About
Designed as a mansion by one of the city’s great architects, Thomas Sully, and converted over the course of time into a boarding house for young men studying law in the 1920s (fun fact: the hotelier’s grandfather actually resided at the property during that period) and later into a hotel, The Columns has now reemerged as the latest project from the always-on-point Jayson Seidman of Sandstone (The Drifter, The Basic Marfa, Thunderbird Marfa). Historic renovation with a global twist is his specialty. Picture a dramatic mahogany staircase sweeping down to a a ballroom where jazz greats drop by, local contemporary art, classic cocktails served in a Victorian Lounge and peals of live saxophone floating on the air.
Location
The Garden District is the perfect expression of New Orleans’ antebellum past. Its famous canopy of oak trees hangs over its secluded mansions and brick lined sidewalks, while its characteristic gardens of hibiscus and crepe myrtle, angel trumpet and bougainvillea, make it one of the city’s most blooming neighborhoods. The rest of the city is on hand, too. Overlooking the St. Charles streetcar line, The Columns is minutes away from the Ernest N. Morial Convention Center, the historic French Quarter, and some of our favorite spots to eat, Brigtsen's and Carrollton Market among them.
