About
Anouska Hempel basically invented the modern boutique hotel when she opened Blakes Hotel in 1978. Entering her chic La Suite West project, one is immediately swept up in the legendary designer’s contemporary, minimalist world, held between milk-white marble and a jet-black floor. These stark monochromes never feel severe, they feel deep and luxurious and otherworldly. Rooms continue the Zen purity theme, with four-poster beds in thick, dark wood. Each marble bathroom has a heated floor, and an intensely soothing jet from the shower. The bathtub is inviting, expansive and steaming-full in minutes—ready to kill the jet lag. Downstairs, Café 41 is London’s only plant-based hotel restaurant, serving up sustainable superfoods and a really nice Vegan high tea.
Location
La Suite West is just two minutes walk from Bayswater tube station, and five minutes from Queensway tube, making it a perfect base for exploring central London and beyond. But the draw here is West London, and you can cover that by foot. It’s just a 15 minute stroll from the hotel to Portobello Market and Notting Hill. Long before Notting Hill was your favorite rom-com featuring floppy haired Hugh Grant, the pretty, cosmopolitan center was well known as one of London’s jewels—replete with charming boutiques, galleries and vintage shopping; and it's as lovely as ever. During the week, the famed Portobello Road Street Market sells colorful fruits, vegetable and vintage clothing, but come Saturday, the area draws in the crowds flocking to its beloved antiques market. No matter the day though, there are plenty of local gems to explore around La Suite West, from The Golborne Road to Hyde Park where the Queen's Guard rides daily.
