Ace Hotel, New Orleans, LA

Masters of adaptation, Ace brings their brand of Pacific Northwest cool to the South and integrates seamlessly into New Orleans Art Deco charm. While retaining the  building’s nostalgic vibe, Ace NOLA brings a modern, minimalist touch to the Central Business District. Pop-in to their uber cool rooftop watering hole and prepare to see and be seen in the Big Easy.

Pairing up with NYC-based designer Roman and Williams, Ace went for a more subdued, yet still hip and fresh, modern minimalism take for this city. Clean lines and dark colors rule this Southern outpost, but touches of French-influenced Art Deco are scattered throughout common spaces. Old world column pillars and sleek hanging light fixtures dot the lobby while stately leather sofas and dark paneling fill the space with vintage charm.

Not to miss is the exclusive, guests-only rooftop garden and bar, Alto, with classic cocktails and Italian-inspired bites. With a menu and lounge this inviting, you have to spend a day poolside while here. If that doesn’t do it for you, the hotel’s two other dining options, Italian goes Southern at Josephine Estelle and catch-of-the-day-centric Seaworthy, have imaginative menus that stay grounded in New Orleans’ culinary tradition.

Though Ace offers enough thrills to tempt you to pass all of your time on-property, NOLA beckons you to play. Time your trip right and the soft scents of olive trees and honeysuckle azaleas will accompany you as you stroll through the famed Latin Quarter or stop by the Garden District to take in the old world mansions. This is a place for wandering and admiring, that is until your belly rumbles and hundreds of true down-South home cooking joints are ready to answer the call.

A short walk from Ace, Compère Lapin offers elevated homestyle cooking. Look out for St. Lucian native Chef Nina Compton’s Carribean takes, like her famously fragrant seafood pot and curried goat on sweet potato gnocchi. Also nearby is Pêche, a restaurant dedicated to showcasing the South’s regional flavors. From a full raw bar and smoked tuna dip to crispy okra and pickled greens, this can be your one stop shop for the best of modern Southern cooking.
