Ace Hotel, Seattle, WA

Take a trip back to where it all started. Before Ace was a global brand, it was this charming, convivial, community-centric hotel, now lovingly referred to as The Mothership. These values are alive and well, from the off-center repurposed furniture to its DIY breakfast kitchen. It’s no wonder that this spot launched Ace across the country.

We suggest: take in the quintessential communal Ace experience on any budget with rooms starting at $99 a night.

About

Seattle, 1999. Ace launched its very first property and its flagship still today. Here, the true appeal of the design-minded, community-focused brand is on display, celebrating all that the boutique collection is now renowned for. The bohemian decor and cozy vibe are part of Ace’s signature style, plus the sky-lit communal lobby -- the first of its kind -- that launched this place to fame. Nestled in a revamped halfway house, Seattle Ace is about the journey and the people you meet on the way -- literally. From the DIY Breakfast Room concept to the communal bathrooms, Ace emphasizes and prizes getting to know your temporary neighbors. They’re also cautious of the world we live in, providing cleaning services to community spaces each hour, allowing you to relax and soak in the Ace experience.

It wouldn’t be a true Seattle institution without a little bit of funk, and downstairs Cyclops Cafe delivers in spades. With unique, kitschy decor, a great drink list, and perfected pub staples, this hangout is quintessential Belltown. Head down for their signature “blunch”, or sample their vegetarian and vegan-friendly menu for dinner while you’re here.

Location

Hipster culture isn’t just alive and kicking here, it’s the way of life. From the offbeat art galleries to trendy restaurants, Belltown is the heart of indie culture. You’ll find homages to alternative icons of the past at record and memorabilia store, Singles Going Steady, around the corner from high-end and hand-picked collections from local designers at Sassafras. Don’t forget, the original location of locally-loved and Bon Appetit-approved Macrina bakery is steps away from Ace. Stop by and pick up one, or a few (we won’t judge), loaves of their house Macrina Casera loaf.

But just because you’re in a hipster hotspot doesn’t mean you shouldn’t catch the city’s cultural sights. Ace’s location also situates you conveniently to cultural heavy-weights like Fyre Art Museum and Seattle Art Museum. Nextdoor Park/Pine neighborhood houses all the independent coffee houses Seattle is known for, plus eclectic food destinations. Do as the locals do and spend some time here to support neighborhood and indie small business owners.

Travel with Impact

With roots in the LGBTQ+ community, to which the founders of Ace belong, creating welcoming spaces for guests and host communities is at the heart of Ace Hotel’s mission. Recently, they released a renewed policy on uplifting marginalized voices from across their organization, including the implementation of anti-racism and implicit bias training and revision of all wages to ensure that there is no pay bias. Turning to the host communities, Ace has also committed itself not only to fostering relationships with Black-owned businesses and suppliers to help their hotels run smoothly, but also to developing mentorship and career opportunities to all of its employees.
