Nearby, Taman Kuliner is the site of the Ubud Writers and Readers Festival each October, and the Food Festival each May. Temples abound. One of our favorite activities is Ubud Village Plate— an opportunity to discover Balinese cuisine and compound life by cooking and eating with a local family. Many Balinese families still live very traditionally, in compounds oriented to the sacred mountain, guarded by a demon-proof screened door and home to as many as five generations. Discover the rhythms of local life as you savor an intimate lunch or early dinner with a host family. A portion of the fee goes to charity.
