Hip Condesa DF introduces trendsetters and Design Hotels™ lovers to the chic vision of designer India Mahdavi—that’s to say, to a tranquil and relaxed, high-tech flirtation with French neoclassical style, a la Mexico. Condesa DF is a favorite here at Porter & Sail; our co-founder and CEO lived around the block from the property for years, sparking a true love affair with Grupo Habita, the team behind this space.

Tucked between historic facades on a tree-lined road in Mexico City’s stylish Condesa neighborhood, Condesa DF fuses the spirit of its bohemian surroundings with a playfully simple design aesthetic. Housed in a 1928 building, the hotel is filled with custom furniture designed by Parisian designer India Mahdavi, alongside stone tiles, and an abundance of local color. The feel is modern yet warm, hip but not haughty. Mahdavi’s 40 rooms and suites are inspired by the tranquility of monastic bedrooms—except, with no lack of amenities. Throughout, you’ll find calming, airy spaces, some of which open onto wooden terraces. An overarching floral theme—visible on everything from cushion covers to chopstick wrappers—serves to enhance the relaxed, warm-weather vibe.
Often compared to New York’s SoHo, Condesa is known as one of Mexico City’s trendiest areas. Stroll or take a bike down its wide, tree-lined avenues, cruise past stately art nouveau mansions and well-maintained art deco buildings (there’s tons of art deco here, alongside all the colonial architecture). You’ll find hipsters walking dogs in shady Parque España, young internationals browsing the fashion in cutting-edge boutiques, and trendy locals filling the cafes, bars, and taquerias that dot the sidewalks. Stop off anywhere to have an organic juice, a latte, a mezcal, or to eat a croissant. From your pretty, streetside perch, you’ll see an area that is vibrant, fresh, and at the front lines of a city in transition.
