Location
In a tucked-away cove on the southwest coast of Antigua, about 30 minutes from the capital St. John’s, sits Hermitage Bay, set between lush, walk-able hills and the blue water of the Caribbean. In the distance, the islands of Montserrat, St. Kitt’s and Nevis form silhouettes on the skyline. A private, unfinished road separates the hotel from the rest of the world, contributing to its seclusion. The large, natural mangrove that adjoins the property supports a fascinating eco-system and brings to the bay still, dark waters and a diversity of plant life. For a different kind of diversity, Jolly Harbour Marina, about 12 minutes drive away, offers an array of shops and restaurants, as well as golf and tennis.
Travel with Impact
Hermitage Bay is a Green Globe-certified hotel. Efforts include minimizing food miles, with produce from hotel garden and local farmers; plastics reduction; composting; recycling of non-compostable waste into programs such as local biodiesel; degraded linens donated to charity; LED bulbs, and efficiency settings for all A/C units on the property. Hotel staff members volunteer as part of a social responsibility program, recently helping a local school improve and renovate the school garden.
