The High Line Hotel, NYC

Nestled within a cluster of landmarked buildings in Manhattan's Chelsea neighborhood sits The High Line Hotel, an 1895 red brick Collegiate Gothic jewel originally built as student housing for the General Theological Seminary. (Yes, your guest room was once a dorm for an Episcopalian priest and the seminary is still open just across the garden!) If that wasn’t enough, “‘Twas the Night Before Christmas” was penned here by original property owner Clement Clarke Moore.

About

New York design firm Roman & Williams spared no detail in bringing authentic luxury comforts to this gothic masterpiece, from the custom décor to the hand-selected historic pieces with a vintage eclectic Americana aesthetic. Every room features pillow-top mattresses fitted with pure cotton linens by H&A Clarke, restored Western Electric rotary phones and sumptuous bathrooms complete with C.O. Bigelow goodies. (The Greenwich Village apothecary gained popularity in 1895, the same year that the Seminary opened.)

Once you pass through the Parisian-style courtyard, complete with lush gardens demarcated by gas lamps, it’s like you’ve stepped into a different era. Guests are encouraged to linger and enjoy a perfectly brewed espresso prepared by Intelligentsia baristas or unwind at Daisy’s Cocktail Garden, where drinks are served from a cheeky London double-decker bus. In cooler weather, head inside to the cozy Lobby Bar and sample small-batch bourbon.

The hotel offers 60 oversized, light-filled rooms that blend vintage details with modern amenities. The boxwood-lined, fountain-accented front garden and back patio are neighborhood gathering spots where locals and their dogs (bring your pup!) can be found enjoying pink Champagne or espresso from Manhattan's only Intelligentsia outpost.

Location

The High Line Hotel is, of course, named for the world-renowned elevated park just 50 yards west. From there, you have walking access to West Side gems like the Whitney Museum of Art, Chelsea Market, and shopping mecca Hudson Yards, with its climbable Vessel sculpture and Edge sky deck. Guests also have the unique option of hopping on a complimentary Shinola bicycle (helmet included!) for a quick ride to Hudson River Park. While the city is buzzing all around, you’ll enjoy a blissfully quiet, cozy escape where not a creature can be heard stirring.
