Twelve Senses Retreat, Encinitas, CA

The healthful, spiritual way of life in Encinitas—a vibrant mix of surfers, yogis, and wellness enthusiasts on the SoCal coast—is fully realized at Twelve Senses Retreat, a tiny hotel with rooms designed on the philosophy of the four elements of nature.

About

This intimate and holistic four-room/one-suite hotel is a hub for art, wellbeing, joy, and healing. Owner and host, Design Hotels™ Original Anke Bodack, has created the space with sustainability and eco-friendliness as guiding principles. Guests are embraced in a warm yet minimalistic setting that is framed by reclaimed, and natural materials. Taking its name from philosopher Rudolf Steiner’s 12 Human Senses, the hotel espouses mindful luxury. Rooms are designed with a color palette defined by one of the four elements: the earth tones of ochre and beige; the charcoal, copper, and orange of fire; the soft gray and deep cobalt of water; and the soft whites of air. The hotel’s outdoor roof deck offers views of a lush garden, while its bar looks over the rolling Pacific.

Full Buyout: Spend $2000 and receive $3000 in credits towards a full buyout of the four-room-only Twelve Senses Retreat for two nights. Guests booking a buyout will receive complimentary house-made arrival cocktails for each room inspired by the four elements that are the foundation of the property -- fire, water, earth and air. A private chef and one-on-one yoga / sound bath and massages are also included, making it the ultimate wellness holiday for you and your crew.

Location

Venture out into town for paddle boarding, sound bowl healing, or even walking with goats. Encinitas is also famous for Swamis Beach, an internationally renowned surfing spot. Here one finds cafes, pop-up shops with local makers and brands, and a mindfulness culture that is passionate about the environment. An abundance of peaceful natural settings and relaxing beaches allow locals and visitors to find a beautiful stillness. Foodies also flock here for the local farming and food movement, the farmers markets, and endless innovations in the food and drink sector, from coffee shops and local craft beers to vegan cuisine and beyond.
